U.C.W. (United Church Women)

Here at St. James our UCW has 2 units, Amicitia and Goforth. We continue to serve the community and our church, and though our numbers are fewer, we still make a difference. We meet monthly for fellowship, Christian reflection, good food and to plan events. We continue to have a fall Bazaar, a spring Book, Bake and Plant Sale and to provide Funeral Teas for our congregation. All these are possible because we have an active congregation who assist us. Everyone is welcome.

UCW celebrates 50 years of service

In 1962 the UCW was formed by the amalgamation of two women’s groups, the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) and the Women’s Auxiliary (WA). Today we continue to serve in our community by visiting the sick and those less physically able and also support local projects. We give generously to support the work of the M&S Fund and other groups such as Robin’s Nest Children’s Homes in Africa.

Our Celebration

Sunday June 3, 2012 the UCW participated in a congregational service. Candles were lit and threads (ribbons) were placed as symbols of our weaving a story of service and love.

Eighteen members received certificates to honour their 50 plus years of service. These Charter Members represent the dedication of the UCW. The congregation gave them a well-deserved standing ovation.

Refreshments were served after church.
